”In the age of ecological crisis art has to have a green heart.”
Pekka Parviainen (b. 1981) is a Helsinki based visual artist. Parviainen’s works process the conflicting relationship between man and nature. The works act as reminders of our dependance of healthy diverse ecosystems and question our role as pinnacles of creation.

Art is made by humans for humans, however the point of view can be biocentric, not anthropocentric.
It is said that we humans have a relationship to nature and all other creatures are a part of nature. However we are as dependant of the balance of nature as any other living creatures. The biggest problem with our cultural relationship to nature is not due to lack of knowledge, but is in the core of our values.

Different approaches for different subjects
Sometimes i work with literary based themes and use photographs as reference material. Lately i have been working more and more purely based on my imagination. I call this method of working Ex Nihilo (out of nothing).
Artificial Inteligence can give the answers and ideas easily, but i choose to take the long way and stick to the Organic Intelligence and reach for the origin of ideas.
Beyond Art
While i’m away from the studio, i enjoy spending time in nature hiking, cycling, skiing, walking the dog or admiring the Finnish archipelago in the summertime. Sometimes i also play experimental music with friends.
